On Saturday 7th March we gathered to mark our respect on the 77th anniversary of the death of a young New Zealand airman – Winston Vernon Stark – who tragically lost his life when he crashed his Hawker Hurricane aircraft into Loch Leven on 7th March 1943.
Rachel Cheer, the Aero Space Kinross curator and an independent celebrant delivered a well researched eulogy and some moving poetry was recited by Irene McFarlane & Sean Bolton.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled when the New Zealand flag was unfurled by the Royal Air Force Air Officer Scotland, Air Vice Marshall Ross Paterson.
A lone piper played “the flowers of the forest” as a fern leaf was symbolically floated on the loch.
